Jon Stewart is bringing sarcasm back to Egypt. While traveling in the Middle East, the comedian stopped to make an appearance on Egypt’s equivalent of his show, The Program (Al-Bernameg)—hosted by his partner-in-crime Bassem Youssef. Arriving in a black hood, Stewart stressed the importance of humor and criticized the Egyptian government for its intolerance of Youssef's jokes. “He is showing that satire can still be relevant, that it can carve out space in a country for people to express themselves, because that is what democracy is,” Stewart said. “You won’t always win, but you can’t confuse tyranny with losing elections.” Meanwhile, back in NYC, fill-in John Oliver is validating every Daily Show fan's obsession.
