California reemerged from a temporary lapse into the dark side on Friday when the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted its hold on a court order that ordered state officials to stop enforcing Proposition 8. Though a court spokesman originally said that it would take at least 25 days after the Supreme Court's ruling to take action, California governor Jerry Brown immediately ordered his public health agency to advise state counties to "begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in California as soon as the 9th Circuit confirms the stay is lifted." Hours after the circuit court's ruling, California attorney general Kamala Harris officiated a wedding between the two Prop 8 plaintiffs, Kris Perry and Sandra Stier.
