How many times can Roland Emmerich destroy the world and keep our attention? Maybe one more time, says New York Times critic Manohla Dargis, who found his new film, starring Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum, “entertaining as promised, and a little less idiotic than feared.” Dargis praises Tatum’s acting, saying he “sells the role and himself with athletic grace and a star’s self-assured charm.” But don’t get too excited: White House Down has just a 46 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with other critics calling it “exactly what you’d expect” and “a movie that makes you feel dumber every second.”
