Cory Monteith’s last film role was nothing like his cheery counterpart on Glee: he was playing a drug addict on the run in the independent cop film McCanick. Monteith, 31, was found dead Saturday in a hotel room, with the cause of death still unknown, but suspected to be drug-related. Director John C. Waller said Monteith had approached him for the part because of the actor’s own struggles with drug addiction. Waller said Monteith threw himself into the role, and “something great was happening with his performance.” Monteith completed a stint in rehab in April, several months after the film finished shooting.
