The Yankees’ legendary closer, Mariano Rivera, received a standing ovation at Tuesday night’s All-Star game, with both league’s players standing at the dugouts and applauding along with the fans when Rivera came in to pitch in the eighth inning. Rivera, 43, jogged out to the mound, waved his cap to the crowd, and then touched his hat to his heart. “It was special,” Rivera said. “Seeing the fans sharing and both teams standing out of the dugout, managers, coaches, players—priceless.” Despite just pitching the one inning, Rivera was named All-Star MVP. Oh yeah, and the American League won the game, 3-0.
