The suspect in a deadly hit-and-run has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and assault for allegedly driving his Dodge Avenger into a crowd of people on California's Venice Beach boardwalk, killing an Italian tourist and injuring 16 others. Thirty-eight-year-old Nathan Louis Campbell, a transient from Colorado, is charged with murder, 16 counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and 17 counts of hit-and-run, for which he could face life in prison. Campbell's court-appointed attorney, Philip Dube, said his client was "very distraught" over the incident, but "I don't believe he intentionally tried to hit anybody, based on my cursory review of the case and my discussions with the D.A.," he said.
