Egyptian interior minister Mohamed Ibrahim narrowly escaped an assassination attempt Thursday when a car bomb exploded in front of his convoy as he was leaving his home, wounding a total of 22 people. Ibraham had received reports earlier this week that assassins planned to kill him, but no one has claimed the attack so far. Ibrahim has been at the center of managing the military's violent crackdown on supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi. He warned after the bombing that a wave of terrorism by Morsi supporters was possible in the wake of the crackdown.
