Assad Gov't to Call for Ceasefire

Neither side of the civil war in Syria is strong enough to win, Syria’s deputy prime minister told The Guardian in an exclusive interview on Thursday. Qadri Jamil said President Assad’s government will call for a ceasefire at the upcoming peace conference in Geneva. Over 100,000 people have died in the last two years of the Syrian conflict, and Jamil says the economic consequences of war have been catastrophic. "Neither the armed opposition nor the regime is capable of defeating the other side," Jamil said. "This zero balance of forces will not change for a while."
