A Los Angeles businessman loaded about 100 homeless stand-ins in vans to wait overnight for the release of Apple's new iPhone at the Pasadena store. After store employees learned of the plan, they stopped selling to the recruits. When the man decided he wouldn't pay the promised $40 each because many were denied the phones, a crowd surrounded the man who had to be escorted away by police for his safety. "It didn't go right. I stood out here all night," one recruit said, adding that after being abandoned, they had no way to get back to a shelter.
