That was quick. Hours after House Republicans said they would write their own proposal to end the government shutdown, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday that the Senate would never go for it. “It’s nothing more than a blatant attack on bipartisanship,” Reid said. Oh and what’s more—House Speaker John Boehner is even noncommittal about it. “I have made clear for months and months that the idea of a default is wrong and we shouldn’t get anywhere close to that,” Boehner insisted. With all eyes on the Senate to come up with a deal to end the government shutdown and raise the debt limit about the October 17 deadline, House Republicans on Tuesday had proposed their own plan that would be slightly less punishing to their party members.
