Fresh off the passage of Illinois's same-sex marriage bill, Hawaii seems poised to legalize marriage equality. On Tuesday, the joint House committes voted on an amended version of Senate Bill 1—with an exemption for religious leaders and sets the effective date to Dec. 2—sending it to the full House. It was voted through originally by a full Senate vote after Gov. Abercrombie called a special session for the legislation. In an attempt to delay the efforts, conservatives have been trying to recruit thousands of testifiers to speak at the hearings.
