Stealing walnuts from farmers isn’t a new crime, but never has it been so aggressive. Thieves snuck onto farm property in Escalon, California, during late hours and boxed up three large containers filled with more than 140,000 pounds of walnuts—that’s $400,000 worth. The sheriff's department is on the search for the culprits, but has no suspects at this point. “Bottom line, we are going to have to do more in terms of, one, capturing these folks and—two—more importantly, prosecuting them too,” Bruce Blodgett of the San Joaquin Farm Bureau Federation said.
