The Detroit flower company was carrying out a Valentine’s Day experiment to see how many deliveries its unmanned helicopter could handle by dropping free rose bouquets to a beta test group. The FAA, however, did not find the experiment cute and told FlowerDeliveryExpress.com that the use of commercial drones—which the agency described as “flying food processors”—must be pre-authorized.
