In response to mounting pressure from gun-control groups, Facebook says it will now get rid of offers on the site to illegally sell guns without background checks across state lines. Facebook will also flag users offering to sell guns, make them aware of relevant laws, and will limit the visibility of those posts to users 18 and older. In addition, on Instagram, which the company owns, searches for guns will also trigger a message reminding the user of gun laws. The moves come after campaigns by Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. The groups had described illegal gun activity on Facebook as “blatant.” Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who is involved with the gun-control groups, said “I applaud Facebook for listening to the call of Moms Demand Action and doing the right thing.”
