A baby girl born with the virus that causes AIDS may have been cured by treatment administered four hours into her life, doctors at an AIDS conference reported Wednesday. The California doctors who delivered the baby followed the example of doctors in Mississippi who announced one month earlier they had evidently cured a child born with HIV for the first time. The Mississippi child is 3.5 years old and still free of HIV despite no treatment for two years. “We don’t know if the baby is in remission … but it looks like that,” said Dr. Yvonne Bryson, an infectious disease specialist who consulted on the California girl's care.
