Saudi Arabia announced Friday it has listed the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, as well as two jihadists groups fighting in Syria—Al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). It also ordered all Saudi citizens fighting outside the country to return within 15 days or face jail, largely due to fears of them becoming experienced extremists who will eventually return and make Saudi Arabi’a rulers their next targets. The move against the Muslim Brotherhood was something of a reversal after Saudi Arabia was seen as supportive of the their efforts to depose President Mohamed Morsi of Egypt. The move against the groups comes just a day after Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE all recalled their ambassadors from Qatar, which was a supporter of Morsi and backs the Brotherhood in the region.
