Late on Sunday night, an earthquake registering 6.9 struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Northern California. It was followed by a series of at least 13 reported aftershocks that reached magnitudes as high as 4.6. No injuries were reported, though the aftershocks rattled residents of the Eureka area for a relatively long time. "It just kept going and going, very slowly and softly. It was not violent. It almost felt like you were in a boat that was rocking," said Raquel Maytorena, a resident of Ferndale.
