Atlanta Tops Sex Industry Profits

The government wants to know what's happening on its corners. A landmark study funded by the Justice Department analyzed various features of the commercial sex industry, reporting on the disparate operations in eight cities in 2007. Urban Institute found that Atlanta raked in the most for sex, at $290 million annually, while Dallas topped the drug and gun sectors. Meanwhile, convicted pimps and traffickers revealed profits of $5,000 to $32,833 a week, though pricing for prostitution was fairly consistent, with $150 an hour being the average.
