As the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide nears, a war criminal blamed for the massacres was tried and convicted in France for the first time ever. On Friday, Pascal Simbikangwa was found guilty of complicity in genocide and crimes against humanity and sentenced to 25 years in jail. Simbikangwa, who was formerly a Rwandan intelligence captain, was using a false name and living on the French island of Mayotte when he was arrested for selling false papers and his true identity was discovered. France has long been blamed for complicity in the genocide that killed an estimated 800,000 Rwandans in 1994.
