Israeli soldiers killed three Palestinians Saturday after an early-morning shootout turned into an angry protest. The violence began in a raid by the Israeli army intended to arrest Hamza Abu el-Heija, a 22-year-old Hamas operative wanted for alleged participation in bombings and attacks on Israelis. Israeli troops surrounded a house where el-Heija was, and returned fire when he began shooting at them, killing him. Moments later, an angry throng of protesters arrived and began attacking the soldiers, who fired into the crowd, killing two and injuring seven.
