Sierra Leone Has First Ebola Outbreak

On Monday, the World Health Organization confirmed Sierra Leone’s first Ebola outbreak, which has resulted in five deaths. The hemorrhagic fever, which has a fatality rate as high as 90 percent, was believed by regional officials to be under control. However, since March 185 people in Guinea and Liberia, which neighbor Sierra Leone, have died from the Ebola virus. Guinean health officials also reported two new deaths on Friday in parts of the country previously thought to be untouched by the virus. Ebola’s spread throughout West Africa has also hit Guinea’s capital, Conakry, which could cause the most damage as an international hub for the region.
