Nigerian officials announced on Wednesday that four more of the kidnapped girls managed to escape their Boko Haram captors. The news that these girls had saved themselves came days after the government announced it could not risk using force to rescue the abducted school girls. After the girls were kidnapped from their school in the village of Chibok in April, 53 managed to escape. In total, 219 are still missing, but the Nigerian military continues to defend its efforts to save the girls. "No matter the criticisms, the Nigerian Armed Forces will continue to do what it had sworn to do," said Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshal Alex Badeh.
