Former Thai education minister Chaturon Chaisang was seized by the military after he came out of hiding Tuesday to speak out against the country’s new junta. Chaturon’s speech was the first public appearance by any member of the ousted government as the military has already taken most of the top government members into custody. Chaturon called for elections and a return to civilian rule. As he was speaking, soldiers came into the room to take him away. “I’m not afraid. If I was afraid, I wouldn’t be here,” Chaturon said before being pushed into an elevator.
