Television sets are so 20th-century. The big screens may become a thing of the past if TV-streaming apps continue their tremendous jump in popularity. In the past year alone, Adobe Digital Index reports there’s been a 246 percent increase in viewing via so-called TV Everywhere apps, which allow users to stream shows from certified broadcast networks. These include HBO Go and Watch ESPN, as well as Comcast’s Xfinity TV Go and Time Warner Cable’s TWC TV. “Over one in five households are watching TV Everywhere content,” said Adobe analyst Tamara Gaffney. TV Everywhere apps are also outpacing the growth of many online video sources, including Hulu and YouTube, though the study left out almighty Netflix.
