Hey, New Yorkers: Not only is injecting ink into your pet’s skin a stupid idea, it’s soon to be illegal, too. A bill outlawing pet tattooing passed the state legislature on Wednesday and is expected to be inked into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The bill, which was introduced in 2011 by Democratic Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal after she noticed ads for “gothic kittens” with tattoos and piercings online, prohibits “unnecessary body modification” of animals, with an exception for piercings or tattoos for the purpose of medical identification.
