As an attempt to curb the recent wave of migrants overwhelming the southern border, the Obama administration is considering screening thousands of minors and young adults in Honduras to see if they qualify to enter the U.S. as refugees or on emergency humanitarian grounds. If approved, the plan would be America’s first refugee effort for a nation reachable by land. Of course, the plan already has opponents, who say it redefines the legal definition of a refugee and will actually increase the number of migrants into the country. Youths in Central America, and particularly Honduras, are believed to be fleeing to escape street gangs that force young people to join against their will and are known for extorting home and business owners.
