Hawaii is preparing for the first direct hurricane hit in 22 years, as Iselle heads straight for the Big Island as a Category 1 and has not yet weakened. “It’s a fairly potent hurricane by Hawaiian standards,” Weather Channel meteorologist Kevin Roth said. It is expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm when it hits Honolulu on Friday. A second hurricane, Julio, which has been upgraded to a Category 2, is expected to hit Hawaii on Sunday. Hurricanes have hit Hawaii only three times since 1950.
