A new Egyptian ceasefire deal, after the last truce collapsed Aug. 19, could end the eight-year blockade of Gaza to allow aid and construction materials into the strip. According to a Palestinian official, Hamas would accept the deal if Israel does. Ending the blockade has been a demand of Hamas for any long-term deal. Both parties have been contacted with the proposal and will apparently be invited back to Egypt in 48 hours for negotiations. So far, 2,100 Palestinians and 68 Israelis have died in the most recent outbreak of violence.
