A gay group will be allowed to march in New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade under its own banner for the first time, parade organizers said Wednesday. Organizers were facing pressure from Mayor Bill de Blasio, who boycotted the parade last year, and employees of NBC Universal, which broadcasts the parade. OUT@NBCUniversal, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender support group, will march in this year’s parade, opening the way for other groups to apply in future years. In the past, gays were allowed to march but not under their own banner identifying them as a group.
