A new witness to the shooting of Michael Brown on Aug. 9 has come forward as one of the few people without ties to the town of Ferguson who saw the fatal chain of events. A man from Jefferson County happened to be working at an apartment complex when Officer Darren Wilson shot the unarmed black teenager. The worker spoke anonymously to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and his account largely confirms the same key details that other witnesses have outlined: Wilson chased Brown on foot, shot him as he ran, and then continued to fire a series of shots even after Brown had turned around with his hands up. The witness's account did not help clarify whether Brown appeared to charge Wilson during the incident, but he said that when Brown moved forward, it could have been “a stumble to the ground” or “OK, I’m going to get you, you’re already shooting me.” As a witness without major ties to Ferguson — all other witnesses have been friends of Brown or supporters of Wilson — the worker's account may add a level of credence. He and his coworker have given their testimony to the St. Louis County police and the FBI.
