Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, told NBC News that the United States and Syria are “fighting the same enemy,” making the country’s president, Bashar al-Assad, a “natural ally” for the U.S.Mekdad says the Syrian administration has “no reservations whatsoever” about airstrikes in the country, but says the U.S. should coordinate logistically with Syria before launching any strikes so that “there should be no mistakes.” Meanwhile, at home in the U.S., legal experts are questioning President Obama’s use of the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force against al Qaeda for the new ISIS war, even as Secretary of State John Kerry announced that a "broad coalition" of nations—including ten Arab ones—will help the U.S. in the fight against ISIS.
