NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell emerged from nine days of obscurity at a press conference Friday to discuss the epidemic of domestic violence in the league. Saying “I never considered” resigning, Goodell did admit he “got it wrong” when it came to the lax, tardy punishment of Ray Rice. Moving forward, “nothing is off the table” when it comes to changing the NFL’s personal-conduct policy, he said. The league will use discirpline and education to curb “domestic violence, including child abuse, sexual assault, irresponsible ownership or handling of firearms, the illegal use of alcohol or drugs.” All NFL staff will undergo education led by a team of experts. (The NFL will also provide funding to National Domestic Violence Hotline.) As for the Rice tape, he stands by his claim that the NFL asked for it but didn’t recieve it, contrary to an AP report last week saying a law-enforcement source gave a league official the tape.
