A conservative Paraguayan bishop accused of protecting a priest accused of sexually abusing young people in the U.S. has been dismissed by Pope Francis. Bishop Rogelio Ricardo Livieres Plano, a member of Opus Dei, has been removed as head of the diocese of Ciudad del Este after he had refused to resign after he promoted a priest accused of sexual abuse in the States. A U.S. bishop had told the Paraguayan Church that the priest was a "serious threat to young people." The dismissal comes two days after the Vatican arrested a former archbishop accused of paying for sex with children in the Dominican Republic.
