Beleaguered Hewlett-Packard announced Monday that it would split into two distinct companies. One company, HP Inc., would be devoted to the PC and printer business. The other, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, will be focused on technology services. The split was made as an effort to drive the profitability of the struggling company, which has been forced to lay off tens of thousands of employees in recent years. HP CEO Meg Whitman will head Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, while HP PC and printer chief Dion Weisler will head HP Inc.
