A man who was part of a landscaping crew in Douglas, Arizona died Wednesday after 800,000 bees attacked the workers. It was the first time in the town’s history that a person was killed by a bee attack. Another crew member was critically injured when he suffered more than 400 stings. The dead man and his injured coworker were part of Douglas ARC, which helps find work for people with developmental disabilities. The nest was found in the attic of of the house where the men were gardening and weeding for the homeowner. After extermination, the nest, which was estimated to be several years old, was large enough to fill a 55-gallon drum. Two other crew members were stung but declined treatment. Douglas Fire Chief Mario Novoa said it is unclear what sparked the bee attack.
