A 34-year-old suspect is in custody after four shootings that left two sheriff’s deputies dead and another wounded in California on Friday. Police said Marcelo Marquez was taken alive at a house in Auburn, a town north of Sacramento, along with a heavily armed woman after a chase and manhunt that spanned two counties. Authorities said the pair also carjacked a pickup truck and shot a bystander in the process. Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones said at an afternoon news conference that Deputy Danny Oliver, 47, was killed after he approached a suspicious vehicle in a motel parking lot Friday morning and was shot in the forehead at close range. A Placer County Sheriff’s spokeswoman said one of her department’s deputies, who she did not identify, was killed after he was shot with an AR-15-type assault rifle.
