Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff narrowly won re-election Sunday night against opposition leader Aecio Neves with 51.5 percent of the vote, after 98 percent of the votes had been counted. The win cements her leadership of the world’s fifth-largest country, which her left-wing Workers Party has held since 2003. The runoff race was noted for its ugliness, in which one of Rousseff’s supporters likened Neves and his campaign to how the Nazis attacked in World War II. Neves, in turn, compared the president’s campaign manager to Josef Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda minister.
