The president and CEO of Tri-Valley University in northern California was sentenced to 16 years in jail for harboring undocumented students in exchange for tuition fees. Susan Xiao-Ping Su was convicted of defrauding the Department of Homeland Security by issuing false visa documents in exchange for tuition and other fees. She took in $5 million to bring in international students on F-1, or student, visas. With the money, she bought multiple properties and a Mercedes Benz. During her three-week trial, university employees testified that there were no admission standards and the office regularly falsified transcripts and other university documents.
