Gun control won last night: nearly 60 percent of voters in Washington state approved a measure to extend background checks to private sales and transfers. (A competing measure to bar tougher background checks lost.) The campaign for stricter background checks raised more than $10 million, including $3 million from Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun group and $1 million from nerd genius Bill Gates. Everytown for Gun Safety said it will pursue similar initiatives in Nevada, Arizona, and Maine.
