The music industry’s gold standard ranking will change to account for song streaming and downloads. Acknowledging the influence of music streaming sites like Spotify, Billboard announced that it will start factoring in data on streaming and downloads in determining the Billboard 200. Mainstream pop songs, which are often streamed rather than bought, could experience a big bump. Ariana Grande’s “My Everything,” which is currently number 36 on the chart, would be number nine under the new data system. “Now with this all-in-one streaming chart, it’s a much truer reflection of how much is being consumed," said Daniel Glass, founder of Glassnote Records.
