The Department of Veterans Affairs has officially fired the director of a hospital in the middle of a scandal over wait times for treatment this summer. Sharon Helman ran the Phoenix VA Health Care System, which was found to have been lying about wait times for veterans seeking treatment. She had been placed on paid administrative leave for six months. After these findings were revealed, VA Secretary Eric Shinseki lost his job. On Veteran's Day the new secretary said he may discipline up to 1,000 employees.
