The minimum wage increased in 20 states, bringing a small level of relief to millions of low-wage workers. A total of 29 states now exceed the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour—though, in some states, the increase is barely perceptible. In Florida, the minimum wage went up by a scant 12 cents per hour; in Missouri, it increased by 15 cents. A few other states are set to enact pay bumps later in the year. President Obama has proposed raising the federal minimum to $10.10 an hour, but that effort has stalled in Congress.
