President Obama is expected to call on Congress to require companies to pay for up to seven days of paid sick leave a year for American workers, according to a senior adviser who spoke to USA Today. In an executive action, the president will also give at least six weeks of paid leave to federal employees after the birth or adoption of a child. The president also wants Congress to allocate $2.2 billion to help states and cities set up paid family-leave programs. The new initiatives were announced in a LinkedIn post by senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett.
