A pair of bronze sculptures long attributed to a Dutchman actually may have been sculpted by Michelangelo, according to a group of international researchers. The pieces, both of naked men riding panthers, would be the only Michaelangelo bronzes that have survived. They were previously thought to be by Dutch sculptor William Danielsz Van Tetrode—until a University of Cambridge professor linked them to a 16th-century drawing made by one of Michelangelo’s apprentices. The drawing depicted a number of lost Michaelangelo works, including a picture of a panther-riding man.
