Uruguay reportedly expelled a senior diplomat at the Iranian embassy, who authorities suspected was involved in placing a bomb near the Israeli embassy in January, Haaretz reported Thursday, citing senior sources in Jerusalem. Uruguay’s intelligence service investigated the explosive device, discovering potential involvement of someone at Iran’s embassy. After working with Iran’s government for information, the Uruguayan government expelled one of the senior diplomats two weeks ago. Authorities found a small, partly detonated explosive device Jan. 8, just outside a trade center building in Montevideo where the Israeli embassy is also located.
