The Pentagon was given one last chance by a federal judge Wednesday to keep thousands of photos of abused detainees hidden from public. Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein of New York said that the Secretary of Defense has until March 17 to provide sufficient evidence that "the release of a particular photograph would result in the harm envisioned." The photos include images of U.S. soldiers pointing guns at suspected terrorists' heads or simulating forced sodomization, as reported by The Daily Beast last December. (The images come from 203 investigations into detainee abuse.) "While the photos show disturbing images from the Bush administration’s watch, it is the Obama administration that has allowed them to remain buried," Tim Mak and Noah Shachtman wrote of the fight. They may not be buried much longer.
