Chicago police have been interrogating suspects at an off-the-books site that cannot be reached by suspects’ families or lawyers. Cops have been operating out of a “nondescript warehouse on Chicago’s West Side known as Homan Square,” The Guardian reports. Police allegedly have beaten suspects in the head and detained people as young as 15 for 12 to 24 hours—and questioned them—without attorneys present. (One man was even found dead at the site.) Police did not respond to The Guardian’s requests for comment and a reporter was told to leave the “secure facility” by a guard. “It brings to mind the interrogation facilities they use in the Middle East,” said Brian Jacob Church, a protester who was once detained there. “The CIA calls them black sites. It’s a domestic black site. When you go in, no one knows what’s happened to you.”
