An NCAA panel penalized Syracuse University's athletic program for violating rules on drugs and gifts on Friday. The university found and reported ten instances of NCAA violations in the past ten years, including academic misconduct, failure to follow drug-testing policy, and impermissible academic assistance (gifts to athletes). As a result, the NCAA suspended Boeheim for nine games and placed the school’s basketball and football programs on five years’ probation. The basketball program will also lose three annual scholarships for four years.
