An inmate at New York City’s Rikers Island who helped save a female corrections officer from being raped was beaten by his fellow inmates after the story hit the news, according to a jail source who spoke with the New York Daily News. Franklin Johnson was attacked Thursday when news of the rescue aired on TV, and the other inmates apparently felt he got too much credit for the rescue. Johnson suffered a minor knee injury, the jail source said. Franklin is set to be released March 24 after serving time for drug-related charges.
