An illicit bust of Edward Snowden in a Brooklyn park was quickly replaced by another tribute to the NSA leaker: an image of his face, projected onto smoke. A group calling itself the Illuminator Art Collective claimed responsibility for the second act, writing on Tumblr: “Our feeling is that while the State may remove any material artifacts that speak in defiance against incumbent authoritarianism, the acts of resistance remain in the public consciousness. And it is in sharing that act of defiance that hope resides.”
